The Mummy and Dinosaur Rapids ride - Universal Studios Singapore

The entrance to the Mummy Ride

We are the Smith family guest blogging our Universal Studios Singapore theme park experiences this week. We are a family of 4 (Mum, Dad, girl 11 and boy 6), travelling from Australia who recently visited Singapore. After not visiting a Universal Studios since the mid 80’s as a child I was excited to visit Universal Studio’s Singapore. We caught the MRT to Harbourfront station then walked across the boardwalk to Sentosa. There is a monorail that you can take for $4 per person but we enjoyed the walk. Normally there is $1 per person fee to enter Sentosa Island by foot but until the end of 2017 there is no charge.

We went to Universal Studio's on a Monday and I would say the park was reasonably busy. I had pre-purchased our tickets through Klook so we headed straight for the turnstiles bypassing the ticket booths, a good time saver on the day. We arrived about 10:30am (half hour after opening) and the first few rides were shorter lines (10-15 minutes) but increased during the day. You can buy an express ticket but these have dynamic pricing which fluctuates according to demand and on the day we went it was more than what we paid for the ticket again for an express pass ($70pp for one express pass per ride or $100pp for unlimited express pass).

The Revenge of the Mummy ride was my favourite and at 7pm (an hour before closing) only had a five-minute wait time. It is a rollercoaster in the dark with plenty of twists and turns and some exciting surprises. As a fan of the indoor/dark rollercoaster Space mountain at the Disney parks I really enjoyed the Mummy. The only downside was that the youngest of our group, my 6-year-old son, was still a little short to ride.

There are a whole lot of really giantic Egyptian statues surrounding the Mummy Ride. It is very impressive and you certainly feel like you are somewhere else.

The Jurassic Park rapids ride was great too. Much like rapid rides that we have been on at various other parks but this one had a surprise ending which we thoroughly enjoyed and the four of us and the other family sharing our boat couldn’t stop laughing.

The Jurassic Park surrounding area is well themed, with lots of photo opportunities with enormous Dinosaurs

I had read prior to visiting that it was pricey to eat at the park but being there all day, we needed to eat. We chose to eat at the Oasis Spice Café in Ancient Egypt where the meals were $15 a plate for the adults and a kid’s meal with a drink for $12. The options were various curries including butter chicken, baked chicken, lamb curry and vegetarian. I had the baked chicken which came with two vegetarian side curries and rice. The portion sizes were very large so value for money I thought it was reasonable. It was very tasty too. The only thing we thought a bit strange was that for the kid’s meal the only drink option was coke. Our kids don’t normally get to drink coke so they were a bit excited to have a treat.
